Italian Alex Baldolini just missed out on his first podium since 2012 after a spirited ride saw him race to a season's best 4th at Imola yesterday, cementing his place as a regular contender for podium finishes in the 2016 World Supersport championship.
In a race that was initially red flagged for an on track incident, Baldolini made the most a solid restart to lock horns with compatriot and fellow MV Agusta rider Lorenzo Zanetti, getting the better of him and a 4 rider group to secure 4th at the end of an encouraging and well raced 11 laps.
The result at iconic Imola elevates Baldo into the top 5 in the overall World Championship standings ahead of round 6 which takes place in Malaysia at the Sepang International circuit in a fortnight.
Alex Baldolini: "It's been a good weekend a really good race. Before the red flag I was was already fifth and feeling good but then the race was stopped. I had a good start in the restart and could keep the pace of the leading group for more than half the race. On the last few laps I began to have problems with the tyres but even with less than perfect grip I could overtake Zanetti to finish 4th. Imola is a track I love so it's fantastic to reward all the team, my sponsors, my family and the fans with this result. The most important thing is that we are consistently finishing in the top 6 and fighting at the front in all races except in Aragon when I broke the engine when I was third. We have packed the flight cases and are ready for the next round in Malaysia where I hope to get even closer to the podium."
