Baldolini Continues Front Running Form At Donington

Alex Baldolini continued his front running form in the latest round of the World Supersport championship at Donington Park on Sunday, finishing 7th after qualifying on the second row.

The weekend could have been a disaster though as during an early practice session Baldo was the victim of a late braking Kenan Sofuoglu. The Turkish rider misjudging his line into the hairpin before taking down the #25 rider. Thankfully Alex was unhurt and was able to qualify 4th after making it through Superpole 1.

The race was pretty uneventful with Alex in contention for the top positions until rear grip started to play a factor.

Nevertheless Alex is happy with the result and is looking ahead to his home race at Misano in a couple of weeks.

Alex Baldolini: “It’s been a strange weekend, I was fast at a track where I have always had problems in the past and what's more I achieved my best grid position in World Supersport with a really good lap time. I started the race really well keeping my position during the first laps but then some riders overtook me with not so good movements and I lost a lot of time, nearly going straight into the gravel. I tried to overtake Zanetti as quickly as possible as he was quite slow and I was losing precious time but I went wide at the Fogarty esses. I pushed hard after losing a lot of time and I overtook both official MV riders once again. I was behind Badovini and soon overtook him to avoid losing contact with Rea and Stapleford. When I eventually overtook him they were a little bit far and I started having rear tire issues during the last seven laps. Kyle Smith overtook me two laps from the end, he had a great pace, I tried to follow him and tried to overtake him but it was so hard. I’m not satisfied with the result because I know without the mess at the begining I could have fought for fourth with the brits. However, my pace wasn’t so bad and we have to see the positive side of this weekend. Donington is not my favourite track and we have had a good performance here. Next race is our home race. I really love Misano it has always given me good memories and I'm certain we will be able to fight with the top runners there. I really want to thank all our sponsors and all my team for the great results and performances so far, not just in the UK but all season. See you in Misano”
