Andorran Xavi Cardelús will replace Alex Baldolini in the third round of the season which is being held at Motorland Aragon from 31st March to 2nd April.
The Italian was forced out of the recent Thai round at the Chang International Circuit after a crash during FP2 left him with a broken left ankle. Alex underwent surgery last wednesday in Oglio Po Hospital by surgeon Alessio Pedrazzini, who operated on him last year after Magny Cours crash and is now focused on returning to the track as soon as possible.
His absence gives an opportunity to young Moto2 racer Cardelus who will make his WorldSSP debut alongside Davide Pizzoli.
Xavi Cardelús: I'm very happy and I want to thank the Race Department ATK#25 squad for the opportunity given to make my debut in the World Supersport Championship at Motorland. I'm surprised but honoured that Baldolini's team thought of me to replace him in this race and to have given me the chance to take part at a World level event. I have accepted their offer because it doesn't interfere with my plans with the Team Stylobike/Petronas squad who I will ride for in the Moto2 European Championship. The team asked me to race in Assen too if Alex is not able to do it but I can't since I have the first race of the Moto2 Championship so it's impossible. The main goal for me is do my best in what will be a new experience for me"
Alex Baldolini: It's a pity that I have been injured. I started in a really good way in Australia, showing that we can fight for the podium positions. At Buriram we were testing some settings when I crashed, but I'm sure I would had been able to fight for the podium there too. Now I will have to watch the others race for a while. The surgery went well and as soon as my body will let me I will be back on my MV. I'm really happy Dadda scored his first points of the season in Thailand and I'm going to give all my support to him in the box to grow him and help him to improve. He knows Aragon circuit and he will feel more comfortable on the bike. I'm sure in this round he will make a big step forward. I'm happy to be substituted by Cardelus, he's young and fast and has experience with the 600 (moto2). He also knows the track well. We will do our best to support him so that he can adapt to our MV F3 quickly"
